The sound is cold and suffocating, but contained. And yet I feel it in my bones when I listen to it. The riffs don't sound as massive as they are, but they feel that massive. Striking and hypnotic, listening through Geister is a rugged and immense journey. The album is brimming with ceremonial darkness from the moment it starts. The intensity of each track is bookended with ritual, and this immersive factor keeps me utterly entranced by the story being told. Geister still feels frigid and dangerous, and I end up captivated every time I listen.

It is, quite simply, mindblowingly amazing. So many bands try to deliver trance-like experiences within a black metal framework but óreida actually succeeds. And how. There should be a picture of this album next to the word 'immersive' in the illustrated dictionary.
